An American 20th century carved hardstone cameo brooch

An American 20th century carved hardstone cameo brooch, depicting Queen Marie De Medici. Finely carved with her hair tied up wearing pearl necklaces and a well detailed ruff. Engraved with the sitter's name to the reverse and signe Louis Zollner and dated 1920. The oval cameo 4cm high. Foliate pierced gold frame with pendant loop. Zollner was reputed to be the last of the great cameo carver's of the United States. He emigrated from Germany in 1871 and his work was much sought-after by the rich and famous of New York.
