A pair of circular gold studs, each applied with a Royal Navy fowled anchor, one set with sapphires, the other with diamonds. Engraved with a signature Albert Edward above and 1875 below. Both 2.6cm wide.
With an oval shaped silver medallion, chased to one side with the Prince of Wales feathers within Royal motto and garter and beneath a crown, between the initials A and E. To the other side and H.R.H.Albert Edward Prince of Wales India 1875-6. Pendant loop. 2.7cm high.
Although Queen Victoria did not visit India, her son the Prince of Wales and afterwards King Edward VII went there from 1875 to 1876. However much of the Royal visit was interrupted by the threat of cholera. The Prince of Wales sailed on HMS Serapis which was powered by sail and steam.
The studs and medallion were probably presentation gifts for either Indian dignitaries visited, or those who assisted on the Serapis.
