Presented by Andrew Grima to The Convent of the Assumption, Hengrave Hall, Bury St. Edmunds, to be given as a Prize for Leadership in 1964. The brooch was presented to the vendor and is accompanied by redacted facsimile letters from 1964 between the vendor and Andrew Grima following the presentation.
The original 'JK' brooch was commissioned to commemorate the life of President John F. Kennedy and was presented by Andrew Grima to Jacqueline Kennedy following the President's death. The design won The Duke of Edinburgh's Prize for Elegant Design in 1966. Further editions of the brooch were produced, including this lot presented for sale.
