An early 19th century sardonyx cameo depicting Emma, Lady Hamilton by Filippo Rega (1761 - 1833), depicted in profile with her hair in the Grecian style, signed 'Rega' on Greek, 2.8cm high, in a ropetwist silver-gilt brooch, 3.6cm high
Filippo Rega (1761 - 1833) was an Italian engraver, medalist and student of Giovanni Pichler. He studied in Rome under the Pichlers before moving to Naples in 1787. Emma, Lady Hamilton also lived in Naples at this time, having been sent there to marry Sir William Hamilton in 1786.
