A scarce mid-18th Century infantry hanger of the Swiss Regiment de Hallwyll, curved single edged blade 27.75 in., with narrow back fuller, engraved in large capitals 'REGT. SUISSE DE HALLWYL'; iron hilt, the boat shell guard with extension on the inside forming a thumb ring terminating in a loop through which passes the tang, side bar and knuckle bow united by a serpentine bar, globular pommel, grip bound with brained brass wire.
This mercenary regiment existed in French service, and was under the leadership of the Colonel-proprietor Franz Joseph von Hallwyl from 1752 until its disbanding in 1763.
