D.F.M. London Gazette: 23/09/1941

Eric Gibb served as an Observer, and at the time of the recommendation for his D.F.M. he had carried out 33 sorties with No 35 Squadron (Bomber Command). His commanding officer described him as ".....an observer of outstanding ability possessed of a high order of courage [who had] contributed in a marked way to successes achieved.". The Station Commander of R.A.F. Linton-on-Ouse further commented, "His operational work has been a splendid example to the observers of his Squadron"

During a daylight formation attack on Kiel on the 30th June 1941, Gibb was slightly wounded, but forbore to report it to his Captain and "continued his duties until base safely reached". He was killed on the 22nd December 1941 when Halifax L9522 crashed on a transit flight near the Lincolnshire-Leicestershire border.
