An interesting composite family medal collection, comprising a mounted group: India General Service Medal 1908-35, Edward VII, clasp: North West Frontier 1908 (Sergt S. Helliwell S&T Corps), engraved in cursive script; 1914 Star and clasp (S. SRGT. HELLIWELL, S.&T. CORPS.); British War Medal 1914-20 and Victory Medal (D-1438 SJT. S. HELLIWELL. 1-D. GDS.); General Service Medal 1918-62, George V, clasp: Kurdistan (SUB. CONDR. H. C. HELLIWELL. S.&T. CORPS.), impressed in plain capitals; Delhi Durbar Medal 1911, silver (SERGT. S. HELLIWELL. S&T. CORPS), privately machine engraved in plain capitals*; Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, George V (SUB-CONDR. S. HELLIWELL, S&T. C.), mounted for wearing, good very fine and better; together with a British War Medal 1914-20 and Victory Medal (S. CONDR. S. HELLIWELL, S&T. C.), extremely fine and nearly so. [7+2]

Sub-Conductor S. Hewell is confirmed on the rolls for his campaign medals, and he served in the Great War in France from the 14th of October 1914, and subsequently in Mesopotamia and Palestine. Meanwhile, Sergeant Seth Helliwell, 1st Dragoon Guards, qualified for the BWM and Victory Medal only, and later an H. C. Helliwell is confirmed on the roll for the GSM 1918-62 with clasp for Kurdistan. It is assumed that these men were siblings and that S. Helliwell of the S&T corps had personal reasons for incorporating his brothers' medals in his mounted group and keeping his own Great War pair unmounted. * Entitlement to the Delhi Durbar Medal 1911 cannot be confirmed for any of these men.
