A swept hilt rapier
A swept hilt rapier, blade 33.25 in., etched decoration including an eagle under a crown surmounted by a cross; hilt formed of flattened oval-section bars, the main elements decorated at the mid-points and the terminals with sunk relief depictions of nudes in the classical manner, outward turning back quillon, arms rising from the quillon block to support a pas-d'âne, one outer and three inner side bars sweeping down to the the knuckle bow, tapered cylindrical pommel with stippled finish, braided wire bound grip, 17th century.
