William Moncrief Robinson was born on the 1st of February 1891, and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) on the 12th May 1915. He served on the Western Front between 1915 and 1918 and was wounded three times, finishing the war as Acting Captain, in which rank he was confirmed in 1923. He attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1939, and served with Central India Command during the Second World War. He retired on the 6th February 1946.
