Francis Henry Newbery was the highly influential director and headmaster of the Glasgow School of Art. Under his leadership the school became associated with the Glasgow School and artists including Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Newbery would spend his summers at Walberswick on the Suffolk coast, often with fellow artists such as Mackintosh.
