The subject of the present work is Marie Dolores Eliza Rosanna Gilbert, Countess of Landsfeld (1821-1861), a dancer and actress, better known by her stage name Lola Montez. In the accompanying letter Doris Zinkeisen describes her as 'a very indifferent dancer but got away with it because she was extremely beautiful and attractive'.
