Emeric Essex Vidal (1791-1861)
A Buenos Ayres water-cart descending to the river a little North of the Mole
Signed, titled, dated 1818 and inscribed verso The town is supplied with water from the river by means of these carts (the wells being of brackish water, which is remarkable). The Men who drive them are the greatest brutes, I believe, in the world - and the oxen that draw them are the greatest sufferers in the Brute Creation
