Tennyson (Alfred, Lord). Autograph transcript of the poem beginning: 'Break, break, break on thy cold gray stones, o sea', 16 lines, dated Oct. 3, 1845 and signed 'A Tennyson', 1p. on pink paper, 8vo., laid down on to a page from an album. First published in 'Poems' in 1842, this, one of Tennyson's most famous short lyric poems, was written in a Lincolnshire lane at five o'clock in the morning between blossoming hedges (Life of Tennyson, vol. 1, p.223).
