Ruskin (John). Autograph letter signed J Ruskin, addressed "Dear Richmond", no location, undated, 2pp. 8vo, written in haste and in some distress, with 2 ink blots on the verso (a little show-through), discussing drawings and his level of work: "I'm oppressed with work just now and can undertake not even the least thing " [Together with]:
A commemorative card of cut-out white work on a black ground in the form of a tomb: " Sacred to the memory of Mary Quintrell, who departed this life October 30th, 1868", overall 11.5 x 15.2 cm. (2)
This letter is almost certainly to George Richmond, famous portrait painter, miniaturist and watercolourist, who studied under Fuseli. It was during a spell in Italy bewteen 1840 and 1841 that Richmond met Ruskin. They became close friends.
