The Schooner Result at a quayside
Signed
Pen ink and watercolour
39 x 32cm
The Result, a three-masted sailing schooner, was launched in 1893, the last sailing ship to be built by Paul Rodgers and Co in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland and was a working ship until 1967. For a brief time in 1917 Result served in the Royal Navy as a Q ship luring German submarines, with some success and she saw action several times but ultimately had to be withdrawn as the Germans became well versed at identifying Q ships. She is now on land at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.
