A rare South Staffordshire enamel snuff box c.1780

£800 - £1,200

A rare South Staffordshire enamel snuff box c.1780, formed as a scallop shell, the moulded surface decorated with alternating stripes of blue and tiny flower swags, the elaborate gilt metal mount with flower, leaf and shell motifs, some restoration, 6.8cm.

Paper label for Taylor B. Williams Antiques, Chicago.

Condition Report

There is some cracking to the inside and outside of the flat cover. There is some restoration around the edges of the cover and some repainting to a couple of the blue stripes. There is a narrow 2cm area of repainting to one blue stripe on the curved section, and a 3cm area of restoration near the hinge, which probably disguises some chipping.
