The farmer’s fields, the gardener’s borders, are his identity.

The hard work and honest sweat of the farmer has etched the life Emma was born into and continues to live today.

Emma’s paintings portray the labourer’s view; the high, thick hedgerows and the rugged, wild landscape beside him as he works the land. From the ancient blackberries and hawthorn blossom, to the delicate snowdrop or bluebell who fights to announce their appearance through the untouched brambles and overgrown wilderness surrounding him to proclaim the cycle of the next season.

Emma Spence lives and works in Hillsborough. Her award winning mixed media artwork aims to promote the cultural recognition of the Irish rural landscape through the eyes of those that work, walk and live in the land we call home.
