A pair of 18th century Tyrolean carved wood and polychrome figures of St Isidor and St Notburga, he with outstretched arms wearing a red buttoned coat, baggy trousers and clogs, she with corsetted body, draped shirt and lace trimmed apron, pencil notations on the bases, 61cm (24in) high. St Isidor (c.1070-1130) is the Spanish Catholic patron saint of farmers. St Notburga of Eben (c.1265-1313) is one of the Tyrol's most revered saints and is the patron saint of farm workers and servant girls. She is often depicted with a sickle representing divine approbation. In rural Austria and Bavaria the two saints are sometimes venerated together.
