A late-Victorian silver and enamel vesta case, Boer War interest,
by Saunders & Shepherd, Birmingham 1899,
rectangular form, hinged cover with a ring attachment, the hinged front enamelled with the scene of a wounded soldier carrying his gun, and written 'A Gentleman in Kharki', with a photograph compartment, height 5.2cm, approx. weight 1.8oz.

'A Gentleman in Khaki' comes from a line in the Rudyard Kipling poem, 'The Absent Minded Beggar'.
