A presentation silver regimental salver, The King's Royal Rifle Corps,

by The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company, London 1915,

circular form, gadroon border, the centre with the regimental badge and with five facsimile signatures, on four claw and ball feet, diameter 25.3cm, approx. weight 19.9oz.

Provenance: a Private Collection of Regimental Silver.

The signatures are of five young officers, who were attached to the King's Royal Rifles in 1915/16 on a course of instruction, and on leaving, presented this salver to the Officers Mess. The signatures are Hal Verelst, (Coldstream Guards), killed in action September 1916 at the Battle of Lesboeufs. Arthur F. Smith, (Coldstream Guards) went on to be Chief of Staff, Army headquarters, India. Charles Loyd, (Coldstream Guards), Chief of Staff to Lord Alanbrooke and ADC General to King George VI. H.A. Sutherland (Black Watch) went on to be Deputy Lieutenant of Peeblesshire, and John Noel, (King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry) taken prisoner and held at Stalag IV-DTorgau Prisoner of War Campnear Leipzig.
