A George III silver double-lidded snuff box,

unmarked circa 1780,

oblong boat form, engraved radiating decoration, the front with an armorial shield, bright-cut borders, the hinged cover with two hinged lids, length 9.5cm, approx. weight 3.7cm.

The arms is that of Astley Baronets: Sir Edward Astley (1729-1802), 4th Baronet of Hill Morton from 1760.

Provenance: purchased from Christie's South Kensington, Silver Sale,18 May 1999.
