A rare pair of 19th century Channel Islands silver wine labels,
by Thomas de Gruchy and John Le Gallais, Jersey circa 1831-1846,
rectangular form, reeded borders, incised 'SOTERNE' and 'BORDEAUX', length 4cm, approx. weight 0.7oz. (2)
For maker's mark and write-up see Mayne, R., Channel Islands Silver, Phillimore, 1985, page 48. It mentions here that one of the items seen by this maker was a 'Plain wine label with chain, 'Soterne' (sic).
