A modern silver model of a mounted Indian lancer,

mounted on a wooden plinth with a plaque inscribed 'General Sir Douglas Baird, K.C.B, C.M.G, C.I.E D.S.O, A.D.C born 4-4 1877 Died 2-7-1963', total height on plinth 40.5cm.
General Sir Douglas Baird was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1897. He served in Probyn's Horse on the North West Frontier. He served on the Western Front in World War I becoming CO of the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders and the GSO with the 51st Highland Division. He went on to Command the 75th Brigade and was one of the youngest Commanders on the Western Front. In 1935 he was appointed Commander in Chief of Eastern Command, India.
