By Omar Ramsden a silver and enamel matchbox cover,
London 1935, also engraved 'OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT',
rectangular form, spot-hammered decoration, the front with a pierced scend of St. George killing the dragon, with red enamel behind, the reverse inscribed 'W. E. BEVAN COITY WALLIA COMMONS 1921-36', length 7.4cm, approx. weight 3.8oz.
Provenance: A Private Collection.
Coity is a village in Wales and is now an area of Bridgend, South Wales, W.E Bevan, was
the solicitor and clerk to the local council and was most helpful to the local people, by way of gratitude they presented him with this match box cover, it stood on his desk until he died in 1949.
