A George III silver-swing-handled basket,

maker's mark worn, London 1790,

panelled shaped oval form, pierced with slats and with a reeded border, on an oval foot, engraved with an armorial, length 35.4cm, approx. weight 25oz.

Provenance: From the Collection of the late Mr Edward Croft-Murray CBE (1907-1980)

The arms are that of Herle impaling Peter or Petre. Motto and crest apparently adopted: Edmond Herle married Susan Peter at St. Merryn in 1782.
