A set of four George III cast silver candlesticks,

in the classical manner, tapering fluted columns with swag decoration, fluted urn capitals, detachable drip pans, on raised fluted circular bases with laurel borders, height 29.8cm, approx. weight 124oz. (4)

Provenance: From the Collection of Sir Framjee Dinshaw Maneckji Petit, 3rd Baronet (1901-1983) and Lady Sylla Dinshaw Petit (nee Tata), and then by descent to the current owner.

The 1st Petit Baronetcy was created on the 1st September 1890 for the Indian entrepreneur Dinshaw Maneckji Petit (1823-1901), of Petit Hall, Bombay. Lady Sylla Dinshaw Petit was the daughter of Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata.

For maker's mark see Grimwade, A., London Goldsmiths 1697-1837, Faber and Faber 1990, page 260 entry 3677.

The crest is that of Cavel, Kemys, Kerney, Le Forest, Lindsey, Locavel and Meautys.
