Sir Edward Coke (1552-1634), Chief Justice of the King's Bench, Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, Attorney General and Solicitor General for England and Wales, silver counter, 1602-3, shield of arms, EDW COKE ATTORNAT GENERALIS, rev., an ostrich to left, a horseshoe in its beak, PRVDENS QVI PATIENS, 28mm (MI 190/7). Very fine and extremely rare.
The ostrich was Coke's crest and the reverse legend his motto.
