Robert Devereaux, 3rd Earl of Essex (1591-1646), Captain-General and Commander-in-Chief of the Parliamentary army, small oval gilt-silver Military Reward badge, 1642, armoured bust, almost full-face, with sash over shoulder, broad lace collar, rev., oval garnished shield of the arms of Essex, 31.5 x 22mm (MI 298/117; Platt II, type G, pp. 84-85), integral suspension loop and ring. Very fine and rare.
