Johann Georg II (1613-1656-1680), Elector of Saxony, Knight of the Garter, St George's Day Celebrations at Dresden, silver medallic Thaler, 1678, Dresden mint, St George on horseback slays the dragon, rev., legend in nine lines within wreath, DU TRÉ HAUT TRÉ PUISSANT ... PRINCE CHARLES II ..., 49.5mm (MI 572/242; Molinari 343; Davenport 7633; KM 565). Very fine.

A "Great Festival" was held at Dresden in honour of the Order of the Garter, on 23 April, 1678. Johann Georg II had been installed as a Knight of the Garter in Windsor, on 29 May 1671.
