James Scott, Duke of Monmouth, beheaded, continental silver medal, 1685, perhaps by Jan Smeltzing, bare head right, IACOBUS INFELIX DUX MONETHENSIS, rev., the Duke's decapitated head on the ground, spouting blood from the mouth, HUNC SANGUIENEM LIBO DEO LIBERATORI, in exergue CÆSA CERVIX LON IULY 15/25 1685, 37mm (MI 615/26; Eimer 280). Slightly scuffed, nearly extremely fine toned and rare.
