An early Victorian mahogany coin collector's cabinet

£120 - £150 £110

An early Victorian mahogany coin collector's cabinet, double-doors with lock (no key) and bolts, carrying handles (one lacks loop), containing 12 soft-wood trays, pierced to hold coins of varying sizes, the base inset with engraved copper plate with maker's details, 14 x 9 ½ x 9 ½ ins [355 x 240 x 240mm].

The plate on the base reads "Robert Kay fecit Anno Domini 1848". It is possible that there might be a connection between the cabinet and a coin collection sold at Christie's on 20 July, 1896 "The Property of Mrs R. L. Kay formerly of Park House, Earls Court".
