An engraved silver George IV Life Saving and Riddle Medal, the oval medal with leaf border and hinged suspension loop, both sides with an engraved inscription, obverse, "This Medal with Five Pounds was Presented TO JAMES RUSSELL by several Ladies and Gentlemen of Hull as a reward for his Exertions in saving a Child from Drowning - Augusus 12 th 1824", reverse, "Born Before his Father / Begot before his Mother / & took the Maidenhead / of his Grandmother", London Hallmark, makers RB and BB, 69 x 64mm (2 x 2 ins). Very Fine and a fascinating combination of diverse legends.
