Theatrical Interest:
An interesting Victorian plated salver, circular, engraved in the centre with the portrait of "CHARLES PITT - Tragedian *", inscribed "Presented by Robert Stanley 1861" and flanked by floral scroll engraving within a border of large cast beads, cresting on three feet, by R. Stanley & Co c.1861, 16in (41cm) diameter.
* Charles Pitt (1819-1867) was an early success on the stage and his acting career flourished. His wife acted too and together they travelled this country, the United States and Canada and was "everywhere well received". In 1861 he became the lessee of the Theatre Royal, Sheffield and perhaps this was the reason for the presentation of this salver.
