A World War I Western Front Military Cross Group of eight awarded to Captain (later Lt. Col.) Henry Cyril Harker Illingworth, comprising:- Military Cross, Geo. V; 1914-15 Star (2 Lieut. H. C. H. Illingworth K. R. Rif. C); War and Victory Medals (Capt. H. C. H. Illingworth); 1939-45 Star; Defence and War Medals; Roumania, Order of the Crown, Military Division, 4th Class Officer's Badge with swords. Lacquered and mounted Court style; together with matching group of dress miniatures; and unrelated miniature War and Victory medals. Henry Cyril Harker Illingworth (25 January, 1896 - 17 July, 1979) M.C., London Gazette, Supplement, 1 January, 1917 (2nd Lt (temp Lt.) Royal Berkshire Regiment. Served France and Belgium, 22 July, 1915 - 28 February, 1917, wounded. Appointed Captain, King's Royal Rifle Corps, 1 January, 1917; temp Captain, 24 January, 1917 - 6 June, 1919; 11 September, 1920 - 1April, 1921, A.D.C to Viceroy and Governor General, India [1st Viscount Chelmsford, Viceroy of India 1916-1921]; Major, King's Royal Rifle Corps, 31 May, 1935; Deputy Assistant Military Secretary to the Secretary of state for War, 24 July, 1940. Son of Harry Holden Illingworth and Gertrude Elizabeth Harker, married Lady Margaret Cynthia Lindsay, daughter of David Alexander Edward Lindsay, 27th Earl of Crawford and Constance Lilian Pelly, 18 December 1928.
