Ancient World, Lucania. Thurium, Stater, c. 380-350 BC, head of Athena facing to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with Scylla, rev., bull, head down, about to charge to right, ÈÏÕÑÉÙÍ in curved line above, in ex, fish to right, 7.00gms. Very fine and toned.
An old note with coin states "Greek coin bought by luck at Dol, Brittany and given to me on the anniversary of my marriage Aug 19th 1905". The note is written on the back of a part letter from 108 Cheyne Walk, seemingly in the hand of the sculptor John Tweed (1869-1933).
