A mid 18th century gold mounted circular tortoiseshell snuff box, with engine-turned, concentric decoration and a shaped, wavy thumbpiece, the cover hinging open to reveal the portrait miniature of a lady (behind glass), wearing a decollette dress trimmed with ribbons, and drop earrings, with her hair tied back, signed, probably by J. Lacon and dated 1753, the mounts unmarked, 3in (7.6cm) diameter.
