Amy Johnson Interest, a silver presentation three handled cup, maker's mark worn, Chester 1925, circular form, scroll handles, on a raised circular knopped stem, engraved with a badge and inscription 'Presented to our founding President J.S Rhys, Esq. as a visible token of the esteem we have for him', the reverse with many facsimile signatures including that of Amy Johnson, height 17.8cm, approx. weight 19oz. Amy Johnson was born in Hull on 1st July 1903. In 1926, after leaving Sheffield University with a BA degree in Economics, she started working for Morison Advertising Agency in Hull. The Club held their first annual gala in January 1927, shortly before Johnson left Hull for London to pursue a career in advertising. It was at this time she almost certainly took her first flight, as a passenger in a five-shilling pleasure trip, in a plane operated by the Surrey Flying Services. Four years later, she became the first woman to fly solo from Britain, to Australia, flying her "Jason" Gipsy Moth.
