A George III silver two-handled tray

A George III silver two-handled tray, by Timothy Renou, London 1797, oval form, gadroon border and handles, engraved decoration, the centre with an armorial within a ribbon tied cartouche, length handle to handle 53.3cm, approx. weight 50oz. The arms are engraved for the marriage of George Shiffner, (1762-1842), so of the MP for Minehead and grandson of the Governor of Bengal, to Mary Bridger, an heiress to a Sussex estate. George Shiffner was created a baronet in 1818, evidently succeeding to his wife's estate at Combe, Sussex.
