A Victorian 18 carat gold pocket watch, the case by Joseph Walton, London 1898, the watch by William Crow, Stratford, E, the reverse of the case inscribed, 'A Souvenir of June 24th 1907 from C.C Wakefield, C.C Sheriff of London', diameter 3.5cm, in a fitted case Charles Wakefield (1859-1941), created Viscount Wakefield 1934, G.C.V.O 1936, was founder of C.C Wakefield and Co, in 1899, dealing in Lubricating oils and appliances. He adopted the trade name 'Castrol' for his products, as motor Lubricants at this period contained a considerable proportion of castor oil. He was elected Sheriff of the City of London 24th June 1907.  Charles Wakefield was also Master of the Haberdashers’, the Cordwainers’, the Gardeners’, and the Spectacles’ Makers Companies.
