An 18th century Dutch silver-gilt box,
marked with a later tax mark,
oval form, the hinged cover with mother-of-pearl and pierced and embossed cage-work decoration of a gentleman and lady with a peacock, the sides and base with chased foliate scroll decoration, the inside of the cover with a later armorial plaque, length 9.3cm.
The armorial could be that of Van der Straten of Flanders.
