18th century, the cover painted in puce monochrome with an allegory of Spring, a maiden seated beneath a tree and attended by putti proffering flowers, the interior cover with a young swain courting his beloved with a nest of two chicks, the gilt metal mounts chased with floral panels reserved on a diaper ground, 9.5cm across.
