A George III racing prize Star, with gilt decoration showing a challenge cup, stirrup, bridle, and horseshoe with motto NON ALTENUS EQUES, the decoration becoming a suspension ribband, 77 x 52.5mm, c.1800, contained in its original shaped and fitted black snakeskin case. 150-200 Nothing is known of this seemingly unpublished badge, though the motto implies that it may have connections with Sir Charles [Carl] Alten (1764-1840), a career soldier, commissioned in the Hanovarian Guards, who fought with the British against Napoleon and was severely wounded at Waterloo. On his return to Hanover was both a Minister and Field-Marshal.
