A pair of George II and a pair of George III silver meat platters,

by Frederick Kandler, London 1755 and 1773,

shaped oval form, gadroon borders, engraved with a coat of arms below a viscount's coronet, (the 1755 pair engraved twice with the arms), the underside with scratch weights '53=11', '53=11', '52=4' and '51=14', length 45.7cm and 45.2cm, approx. weight 192oz. (4)

The arms are those of Murray quartering Barclay of Balvaird, for David 7th Viscount Stormont K.T. (1727-1796), later 2nd Earl Mansfield.

Provenance: David 7th Viscount Stormont K.T., and then by descent to the current owner.
