A rare, late 17th/early 18th century mounted cowrie shell snuff or nutmeg box, with a scratch-engraved lappet border around the sides, the hinged cover pierced with holes for use as a grater or rasp, secured by a disc latch and flanked by foliate chasing, unmarked c.1700, 3.1in (8cm) long.
