S. J. G. Gornall, Loyal Regt), with Oak leaf for MiD; 1939-45 and Italy stars; Defence and War Medals, latter with oak leaf for MiD, mounted for wearing. Nearly extremely fine. (5)
Stephen John Guest Gornall, born 9/2/1902; commissioned as 2nd Lt., 31/8/1922; Lt., 31/8/1924; Captain, 1/4/1933; Major, 31/8/1939; Act. Lt. Colonel, 15/6/1945. Twice MiD, see London Gazette, sold together with:-
a) Framed Citation, signed by Alfred Duff Cooper (later viscount Norwich), as secretary of State for War, "Operations in Palestine, 1936 Captain S.J.G. Gornall, 1st Battalion The Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire), was mentioned in a despatch from the General Officer Commanding the British troops in Palestine and Trans-Jordan, dated 4th December, 1936, for gallant and distinguished services in the field. I have it in command from the King to record His Majesty's high appreciation of the services rendered.
b) Studio photo (as captain)
c) Gold and enamel regimental "sweetheart's" brooch for the Loyal Regiment
d) A silver salver presented to Gornall "on his marriage", with facsimile of fellow officers, by Carrington & Co, London Hallmark, 1934, 12 1/2in (32cm).
e) Belgium, Queen Elizabeth medal, 1914-16.
