A silver Livery Company presentation goblet- The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths, 'The Pym Cup' by Alstons and Hallam, London 1911, tapering circular bowl, with matted decoration and engraved with the Company's arms and inscribed' The Gift of Christopher Pym upon his Admission to the place of Clerk to the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths 1655', the stem modelled as a blacksmith at the anvil, inscribed 'by hammer and hand, all arts doe stand', on a raised circular foot, height 17.8cm, approx. weight 8oz, together with a bound copy of 'A List of The Wardens, Court Assistants, Livery, Freemen and short Historical Review of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths', London 1935. (2) This lot is accompanied with a photocopy of a letter from the present Clerk to the Blacksmiths Company with the History of the original cup from 1666. It is now in the ownership of the Mountbatten Family on loan to the Ashmolean Museum. The cup was last sold in 1911 for £4,100. It is assumed by the present Clerk that the Prime Warden that year had replicas made to coincide with that sale.
