The Battle of Belleisle or Quiberon Bay, Admiral Hawke's Victory, silver medal, 1759, by James Kirk, to the order of the Society of Arts and Commerce, Britannia seated on a sea-horse, armed with trident and shield, rev figures of Night and Tempest shield Britain from an attacking France, 40mm (MI 706/441; MH 364). Very fine and scarce.
Admiral Edward Hawke (1705-1781). His victory at Quiberon Bay prevented an invasion by the French. The medal was formerly (Hawkins) attributed to be the work of Thomas Pingo.
