Switzerland, commemorative medal of the Zurich Price riots, 1817, in tin depicting cityscape, all around paper "petals" attached giving examples of the new prices for various domestic items, 77mm [for medal]. Much as made, though one "petal" detached.
July 1816 had been extremely cold and by the following year grain prices in Switzerland had tripled. Zurich was overrun by beggars and the food shortage was a serious problem. A similar example sold in Bank Leu, Zurich, Sale 35 (lot 261).
