A George II silver table snuff box,

by Gundry Roode, London 1731,

modelled as a book, the ribbed spine engraved with formal motifs, the hinged cover with a later armorial within a Rococo cartouche, the reverse side with a crest, length 11.4cm, approx. weight 7.9oz.

The later arms are those of Sebright, probably for Edward Amherst Sebright, third son of Sir John Sebright, 6th Bt.of Beechwood. During the Peninsular War he commanded 2/1st Foot Guards from March 10- April 1811.
