An early 18th century silver snuff box,

unmarked circa 1720,

oval form, the hinged cover set with an oval silver-gilt medallion of Charles I, gilded interior, the underside with a later presentation inscription ' To Ernest Gillick with thanks for designing the beautiful Chairman's Cup for the Arts Club, London from William Orpen, 1929' length 7.4cm, approx. weight 1.6oz.

Ernest Gillick RA (1874-1951) was the British sculptor and Sir William Orpen KBE, RA, RHA (1878-1931) was the Irish artist.
